About Your Session

How do I book a photo session with you?

Just email me at info@julieblumphotography.com at least a month before you’d like to schedule your session.  We will decide on a date and a location together, and I will send you my client questionnaire so I can get to know you a little bit before we meet.  I’ll also send you my contract and an invoice for the deposit, and once that is paid, the date is yours!  Please note that your deposit must be paid within one week of receiving your invoice, or your session date and time will be opened up for other prospective clients.

About two weeks before your session, I will send you my model release form, and an invoice for the balance of your session fee.  The form should be completed and the invoice should be paid before the session.

My sessions take place on weekends, usually about 90 minutes before sunset.  I am a sucker for that beautiful late afternoon light!  Morning sessions are also available and should take place by 9 am if possible.

What should we wear for our photo session?

I get asked this a lot! I usually recommend that clients wear coordinating outfits – nothing too matchy-matchy. My family recently had our photos taken, and I chose my outfit first (because I think mama should always look the prettiest!) and then chose my husband’s and sons’ outfits to coordinate with mine. In case you need some inspiration, I have put together a “What to Wear” board on Pinterest that will give you ideas for outfits and color schemes!

What should I expect during our session?

Once we meet at the location we’ve agreed on, we’ll spend a few minutes chatting and I will charm you with my amazing wit (see? It’s working already!). If you have kids, I will try to make them my buddies and capture your interactions with my camera. I want genuine laughs, not forced smiles. And if I have to act like a goofball or tell them their daddy has stinky feet in order to get those giggles, I am fine with that! Some parents like to  bring snacks and drinks for the little ones to keep them occupied and happy during sessions. You may also want to bring a stroller for your younger children so you don’t have to carry them for the whole session.

Sessions usually take 45-90 minutes. Most of my sessions take place outdoors, so we will be doing some walking around. There will be times when I will stop and have you pose for some photos, and sometimes I will just hang back and capture the unscripted moments you have as a family. Run around. Play peek-a-boo. Hold hands. Give piggy-back rides. Be yourself. If you have any poses, props or ideas for photos you’d like me to take, just let me know!

The most important thing to remember is to HAVE FUN! It sounds so cliché, but it’s really important to just relax and have a good time. I have two little boys of my own, and I know kids don’t always want to sit still and look at the camera. I totally get it, and I will do my best to get them laughing and giggling (even though they may be laughing at me!). It’s not uncommon for kids to want to give me a big hug at the end of our time together.

What happens after our session?

I will edit your images and will post a sneak peek for you on Facebook within a day or two.  Feel free to tag yourself in the photo and share it with your friends!  Within two weeks, I will email you the link to your private online proofing gallery, where you will see 15-20 artistically edited photos from your session. You will have one week to let me know which of those images you would like to receive, and I will add the high-resolution files to your gallery so you can download and print them however you’d like.

Five files are included with your session fee, but the vast majority of my clients purchase all of the images in their gallery. Clients who purchase their entire gallery will receive all of their images on a custom flash drive (along with some other fun goodies – you can check it out here)!
